Asiatique The RiverFront, Bangkok (Thailand)

Shopping at a night bazzar is definitely one of the top 10 things to do in Bangkok. Apart from the well known night markets like Patpong Night Market, Rod Fai Markets, Chatuchak Friday Night Market and etc, Asiatique The RiverFront is one of night markets that evolves in the most recent years. Today it is the largest waterfront shopping and entertainment hub in Asia.

Only 10 minutes downriver via a free shuttle river boat, making travel to and fro it fast and convenient.

While on the way to the Asiatique, you could also enjoy the beautiful night scenery of the Chao Phraya river.

The old Asiatique site was actually a pier belonged to the East Asiatic Company and was owned by a Danish national mainly to export teak wood. It was built by King Chulalongkorn in the early 1900s to establish trade between Siam (Old Thailand) with the European nations. The founding of this pier has initiated trading with the European nations and has led Siam to maintain sovereignty and independence till this day.

Asiatique is divided into 4 main districts namely, Charoenkrung, Townsquare, Factory and the Waterfront.

The Waterfront District has an array of international restaurants and wine bars that give a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River along the riverside.

The Factory District is where most of the 1000+ small shops are located selling mostly fashions, souvenirs, handicrafts, designed items, furniture etc.

At the Factory District, you may find items of good value but not as cheap as those you may find at other night markets.

At the Town Square District, you can find mixture of cultures from the East and the West. It has a beer garden, a variety of gastronomical delights, and a small event area.

It also has local delights like durians and coconuts.

Thai milk tea is also one of the local specialty and very popular among the locals and also the tourists.

The Chareonkrung District is where you will find 1000+ retail shops selling handicrafts, home decors and souvenirs etc.

There are also entertainment shows performed nightly eg. Clayspo Caberet and Muay Thai Live. Muay Thai Live-The Legend Lives is a spectacular show about the history of Thai Boxing, from its origin till present day presented in five chapters. Recently it has also included a live boxing fight.
