Isetan Supermarket At Westgate

As you know that Isetan is the first Japanese department store in Singapore, it has grew over the years in its products and services it provides in Singapore. Isetan Singapore is not only a department store and a supermarket, it also caters for online shopping.

I particularly like the Isetan's Supermarket due to its wide range of items from Japan. It has a few outlets island wide, with Westgate branch being the latest which was opened in late 2013. Today I will just do a brief walk-through for the Westgate branch.

Fresh vegetables can be seen at the vegetable racks. Price is reasonable as per supermarket's standard.

Other than the normal fruits which you can see daily in the normal markets and other supermarkets, there is a section where you can find those exotic fruits air-flown from Japan.

If you want to try something out of the blue, give these summer plums a pick. Price of S$19.90 is quite expensive for a box of 2 plums, but nevertheless we do not see these seasonal fruits often.

These air flown peaches from Japan would be a better buy I guess. Looks fresh and not too ripe from the outside.

You may also find oils, sauces, seasonings, and dressings direct imported from Japan. Cooking of a Japanese dish is made easy with the availability of all these.

If you do not want to do too much cooking and yet want to have some tasty food, this section offers you an alternative ie. meats-Wagyu beef croquette, black pork minced cutlet and Teriyaki chicken etc. These ready-to-be-cooked delicacies could turn up on the table within minutes by just deep frying or simply by putting it into a microwave.

Seafood imported from Japan should not been a missed for seafood lovers. It covers a wide range of seafood products.

Products such as fish fillets, scallops, fish heads and etc can be found fresh inside freezers.

You can also find various seafood products specially selected and imported by Hirashima Suisan which are sealed packed nicely.

For Japanese who are staying in Singapore and miss their country delights, this is where their local food products you may find from different parts of Japan sub-prefecture eg. Japanese fish cake, black beans, seasoned squids etc.

Japanese snacks are quite popular in Singapore, so how can it be missed out? Pick your choices among those fish and rice crackers, crispy seaweeds, dried fruits and others etc.

Apart from food, of course there are many sections in the supermarket including drinks, fruit juices, wines, toiletries, sanitary care, cleaning and kitchen essentials and many others etc.

Freshly made sushi are available and they come in variety of sushi mixed in sets.

Nagomi has a smaller version of their restaurant here but only selling bento sets and some selected gourmets.

It also has nice and legit Ramen and Udon noodles ready to serve you in just 5 minutes.

Apart from Nagomi, you can find some of Japanese delicacies over here at the Market Event such as baked sweet potatoes and some deep fried fritters.

I was fascinated by the Cute Panda Cream Rolls from Chateraise. Chateraise is a Japanese pastry shop well known for its cakes and sweet pastries.

Chateraise's pastries are one of the most affordable in Singapore. In Japan, it has a few hundred outlets spread across the prefectures.

Johan Paris Bakery is a Japanese bakery with French origin. All breads are freshly baked daily by experienced Japanese bakers. Baguettes, croissants, fruit pans, mini cheesecakes and other assorted bakes give you a wide selection of choices.

It has a separate section selling only mini croissants. The mini croissants come in normal and chocolate flavors.

I have tried the mini croissants and they tasted not too sweet and yet flaky like those of French's origin.

I personally feel that Isetan Supermarket at Westgate gives me a sensational feel whenever I visit it. With the various daily fresh and other essential products available from Japan, local Japanese need not travel back home too often to get the things they needed. Even window shopping alone can be an eye-opener, but probably you cannot get away without getting something to bite on.
