Mei Heong Yuen Assorted Desserts

I have tried many desserts from various dessert stalls across the island. One of the most popular one will be Mei Heong Yuen. Mei Heong Yuen first opened their stall in Chinatown several years ago. They are famous for their peanut, almond, walnut and black sesame paste. Their shaved ices are also up to standards. Total about 20 cold desserts and 10 over hot ones to choose from. They also serve some local snacks like kuehs and dumplings.

Their shaved ice are layered with the mixture of syrups of your chosen flavours and piled up. The thin speck of ice just melts instantly and evenly when you put it inside your mouth. It is a perfect choice of the desserts especially on a hot day or after having a meal in Chinatown. The picture shown above is one of my favourite- mango and strawberry snow ice.

Besides that, green tea snow ice is another must try item on their menu too.

For the warm desserts or they called it the healthy paste, are traditional desserts being very popular with the older generations. Do not underestimate by their plain outlook. These healthy pastes are made of fresh and healthy ingredients to give the food taster the natural flavours and aroma. Walnut paste shown on the picture above. It gives a rich and creamy walnut taste as if the walnuts melt in your mouth.

This almond black glutinous rice is one of the most frequently ordered desserts among the older folks.

Local snacks like Cantonese rice dumpling, yam cake, pumpkin cake and glutinous rice may be an add on during tea breaks. I personally like the pumpkin cakes. A bite on it, I can feel the smooth blended texture and taste of a pumpkin.

If you feel like trying something out of the ordinary, they do have some special desserts eg. Yam paste, herbal jelly, almond with egg white, egg pudding and bird’s nest etc.

Mei Heong Yuen is an ordinary stall located at one of the shop houses with clean environment and air-conditioned but selling extra-ordinary desserts. It is a good place to bring the whole family or friends to enjoy some delicious and healthy desserts as one will sure find something to suit his/her liking from the variety of the menu.
